CYCLONE OLI IN FRENCH POLYNESIA – LESS DANGEROUS THAN EXPECTED


With cyclone OLI now on the southernmost part of French Polynesia, Tahiti and her islands have welcomed back their usual sunny weather.

The main touristic islands have been relatively spared: except from Tubuai, almost all resorts are fully operational.

Maritime and air traffic were back to their regular schedule almost immediately after the alert was lifted. OLI didn’t directly hit the Society Islands, as the closest it came to Bora Bora and Tahiti was at 300 km south-east of the islands. Then, it headed towards the Austral Islands were it caused more damages, especially in Tubuai.

After this very rare phenomenon, French Polynesia is now ready to welcome back its visitors.
